I have to thank everybody who downloaded the BETA Version, who tried it and especially the guys who send me comments and suggestions. As always the game gets better when YOU GUYS help me by telling what you liked and what you didn't! I tried to implent everything I wanted and also added a few features other people wanted to see in the Remake. Dark Woods 2 Remake is a small strategy game, based on Jocke The Beast's Dark Woods 2. The whole game concept is copied, with Jocke's permission, beside a few additions: -Graphics (Dark Woods 2 is an ASCI(I) game) -Night/Day modes -Monster can be displayed as 'ghosts' or lighten up, darken... -particles -A Level-Pack Selector -New 'You failed/You made it' screens -Weather effectes -A Highscore table -A custom level selector (!!!) -... The original game can be found at http://jockethebeast.qbrpgs.com and is a masterpiece of programming!!! Right now there is a Community making new maps and even Fan Pages for DW2. So, if you've played through all maps you can get new ones on my page ( www.blueqb.de.vu ) and Jocke's. ----------------------- 2] Installation & Start ----------------------- There is no need to 'install' this game cuz you can start it directly after unzipping the gfxwoods.zip file. ------------------ 3] The game itself ------------------ You can eighter play custom maps or level packages: CUSTOM MAPS ----------- Select "Custom Maps" from the main menu and a new screen will show up: The 'Custom Map Selector'. Here you can choose the map you want to play as well as change a few settings. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW KEYS to switch between the different lines. Use the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW KEYS to change an option. LEVEL PACKAGES -------------- Your target is to complete all levels in a package and get as many points as possible. You can get points for fighting monsters and collectiong treasures. Here is a short score-table taken from JockeTheBeast's Dark Woods 2: Score schedule: --------------- Gold : 10 points Jewel : 20 points Orc : 30/20 (sword/bowshot) points Troll : 50 points Level complete: 100 points After your turn the monsters will move: ORCS : ...move randomly one field per turn. TROLLS : ...follow your Hero one field per turn. ------------ 4] Controlls ------------ -> To move your Hero around use the [ARROWKEYS]. everytime you move your hero your turn is over and the Monsters will move. -> To slash your sword hold [SPACE] down and press an [ARROWKEY] -> To make use of your bow hold [S] down and press an [ARROWKEY] You can shoot as long as you have any arrows left. -> To cast the flamewall spell you've to hold [M] down and press an [ARROWKEY] If you are out of Mana you can cast the spell. The flamewall spell castes a wall of flames next to your hero. Nobody can walk through this wall. ...trap!!! -> To wait for the monsters to move without mvoing your own hero press [.] (DOT) -> TO speed the game up press [+] and to slow it down press [-] -> To go back to the main screen press [ESC] After every action your turn is over, so you can't move your Hero and shoot an arrow in the same turn. -------- 5] Hints -------- - Don't waste your arrows hunting orcs. YOu can kill them using your sword. - Before you kill all monsters, try to collect all treasures. - Use the Flamewall spell wisely - Try to trap a monster with only one spell. - Don't run around like a madman, destroying bushes. If you cut small passages into bushes you can trap monsters easily with a firewall spell. - Trolls are harder to beat than Orcs, so if you want to complete a level and collect all treasures beat the Trolls at first, then collect the treasures and when you are done kick the Orc's a$$.
