DESCRIPTION.
============
Town of ZZT Remix is a collaboration project started by Snorb, back in
2020, to take boards off the original Town of ZZT and put new, modern spins to
the classic boards everyone has played. The collab attracted 13 other authors,
and through a dedicated Discord channel, and long stays in vaporware hell, the
collab is now complete for you to enjoy!
Like Town of ZZT, you must go through the 43-odd game boards filled
with creatures and ingenious puzzles. The game is, somehow, even more
challenging than the original, and you'll require a great amount of brain
power and fast reflexes to prevail.
If you are curious how the game's boards were put together, or if you
want to take a peek at what's going on to figure out what to do, the game's
editor is able to open this world file. Each board is credited to the author
or authors that worked on it.
SPECIFICATIONS:
===============
ZZT requires a PC compatible computer with at least 512k RAM and any
graphics adapter with a color or monochrome screen. I copy and pasted that
sentence, and with this world being around 300 kilobytes and making heavy
usage of colors, you are going to want color display, more than 512k RAM, and
a keyboard.
Luckily, we live in 2020, where you will probably either be playing
this game online, or through DosBOX or Zeta.
HINTS:
======
General hints listed below. For more detailed hints, keep reading:
- If something looks different than the usual walls and collectibles, try
touching it. A lot of objects can be interacted with by bumping into them.
- It's good practice to, whenever you enter a new board, save the game first.
That way, if you get killed you can then return to the board quickly.
- Don't feel overwhelmed. Town of ZZT Remix can be challenging at times, but
there's plenty of ways to get supplied with health and ammo.
- If one board is too difficult for you. Just remember, this is an open-ended
adventure game. Try one of the other paths if you still haven't completed all
of them.
REGISTRATION:
=============
Unfortunately, we can safely conclude that registering your products,
even ZZT worlds made by a random person, has faded away by 2020. It's probably
been gone for much longer. Also, this is our one collab game. Come back later
for something resembling a catalog.

INTRODUCTION.
So, before I start. Keep in mind that this is a MASSIVE
SPOILER WARNING. Don't read these hints if you want to figure out the game on
your own!
Second, some hints for boards you can expect to find in the
game. Unfortunately, that means you won't find any hints here!
Room One:
This is tied for the least lethal board in the world. If you want an
easier time, either get some ammo and go east first, or get some gems and go
north first. The other two paths are significantly more difficult!
Armory:
The vendor needs your help getting his key back from the Guardian.
However, the Guardian is a big jerk, and will challenge you to a trivia
contest before giving it back. You'll have to explore quite a bit to at least
answer the easy questions.
Crank Fault:
The combination is practically impossible to brute-force. If you want
to get the purple key here, you'll need to find the combination elsewhere.
ZZTech Star Lab:
Use the throwing star launchers to get access to the keys. It helps
to stand on the same row they're on.
Outside Castle:
You'll need to pay for a ticket to tour the castle. Make sure you set
10 gems aside, and hurry in before the Troll blocks your path again!
Inside Castle:
There's a lot of statues and displays to look at. The most important
one is the one with the purple key inside. Shoot it open to get the key, but
you're not done yet!
Labyrinth:
Many dangers lurk here. You'll want to reach the Room of X-Treme
Annoyance first to get to the Dragons, which will lead you to the key to get
to the throne room.
The Masque of the Throne Room of Death:
There's many sections to this board, each one requiring a different
solution. Make sure you listen to the ghost to know what to do in each room.
Four Lakes:
For experts only! You'll be shot at from many directions, and you get
zapped back to start if you get hit! Take it slow and steady. There's several
safe spots on the map.
Rube Machine:
A giant ruby lock keeps the giant door shut. You'll need to get the
key out from the Cave to access this machine. If it proves too much of a
brainbuster for you, a button by the puzzle entrance can make it easier.
Bug Maze:
Transporters are these weird squiggly teleporters that can move you to
the other side of it, or to the opposite Transporter in its direction. It
prioritizes the first interaction over the second. To solve this board, you'll
need to block the space right in front of some Transporters to transport
further and make progress.
Gaurd Station:
The riffraff here can get you some ammo if you ask the right
questions, and you'll need all you can get! Head right first when you get out.
Jailbreak:
You'll have to defeat the police force if you want to escape! They
are all able to take multiple shots. Some cops and prisoners may shoot at you
from the sidelines. others want to stay out of this entirely. Keep moving and
shooting to reach the end.
Starmine!:
To get this purple key, you may have to set off one of the mines. But,
if you use your bombs wisely, you may be able to avoid getting buffeted by
throwing stars.
Sliding Puzzle:
When you have to lend a key, go right and then return!
Gates of Peril:
Keep moving! It may be tempting to get the ammo and gems, but unless
you're really fast, it's not worth getting permanently stuck!
Path by Cave:
Not much here. Continue east for a purple key. Go into the cave to get
a key for the west path.
Cave 1:
You'll have to go into the Transporters to progress. Destroy the
machine inside!
Catacombs:
These Bears are really fast! Don't try to attack them without some
distance between you two.
Forest 1:
If you can break into the house in the center, you can get to the ammo
cache here. If you help someone here, you might be able to find a secret
treasure.
For Mariko:
First pass has no danger, but the second and third pass is pretty
difficult! It's possible to make it easier depending on the path you take.
House of Blue Dragons:
Listen to the patrons here! They'll be able to help you with the
minigame.
The Mixer:
Keep an eye on what colors and stencils you need to progress. Make
sure you create the purple key before leaving this board!
Inside Palace:
There's a goodie to the right.
Prepare to Die!:
Here, you can either shoot or use bombs. It's better to shoot a few
of times first, then use bombs.
This section tracks other objects or external resources.
The external resources, such as tarballs or Git repositories, are then available as part of the object. Their files can be considered local to the object and usable in scripts or as part of a build process.
For resources that are only to be used as part of the build or runtime of the object, it is best to describe those local to those sections.
