DOS Arcade game from Jason Truong from 1994.
Self-published
1994
Turoid is a Breakout variant with a few twists. The bricks (which are rectangular here) come in several different colours that indicate the number of hits it takes to break them, but some also contain orbs which will fall down. Of these, a purple orb will instantly break the player's paddle, so these must be avoided, but golden orbs contain various bonuses and should be picked up. Sometimes, additional purple orbs fall from the ceiling. This gameplay feature is somewhat similar to Brixor, but here, gameplay is more smooth, albeit as much frantic. Between levels, there are bonus stages where you need to shoot bouncing orbs using a different paddle equipped with lasers. Turoid was sold as shareware. The unregistered version includes just two levels, and a copy of the level editor that does not allow to save user levels.
