Island of Jerks 1: Special Edition v1.5
By: GameMstr1 of ERI
Genre: Comedy
Size: iojse-a.zzt = 269 kb
iojse-b.zzt = 186 kb
iojbonus.zzt = 115 kb
ioj1se15.txt = ...I won't even bother
There should be three files in this ZIP file (four if you count this text file); the update got rather large, and my computer soon would not load the whole thing up on one file.
Anyhoo, this is IOJ1:SE v1.5. Aric told me I should go all out, so I did. As a matter of fact, here's a transcript...

Go download Island of Jerks, and play it. Then download Island of Jerks: SE,
and play that.
Based on their (mostly) graphical differences, which one is better?
Should I continue to update the rest of the series?
And, since I know where Aric McKeown is, should I talk with him
about finishing Island of Jerks 4: Part 2?

Did you ask Aric about making a SE version of the original?
Always ask before starting work, unless you can't locate the person.

Yes, continue with it, personally I think the biggest threat against people
liking the IOJ series is its lack of graphical ability,
which you have solved.
I have always though it also deserved an actual ending, just so we
could have that satisfaction.

Well, at the time, I didn't know what happenned to the guy...
but now I know he runs his own comic website at
http://www.ashfieldonline.com . I'm not thinking he
liked my efforts very much; I asked him whatever
happened to Island of Jerks, and he said (exact quote!)...
"I started too about 9 years ago, then got bored. So, there's
no such thing. Maybe that guy who modifed the first one could
do it. Oh, wait. That kinda bit. Nevermind."
So THIS is why I wanted to know whether or not to continue.

You got my vote. I loved the IOJ games at the time, but with the
exception of IOJ 4 they all have graphics of horridness. Go ahead, sriiii

heh. i personally think the ioj series is simply a bunch of
dumb jokes (kinda like the stupid rpg of ol' times), but that's just me.
uhhh... does that mean he didn't like your se?

You can't upload island of the jerks SE if i'm being flamed
out of creating M.E SE. What's the difference to MESE or
IOTHSE? Knightt, you shouldn't let him do that if your
asking to to stop M.E SE. It's the same thing, but it looks
like he's getting away it (insert Scorch-type whining here,
the DOS Text Editor cut off the file here).

the first iotjse was made before any rules were set down.
what i get out of that is that aric doesn't care whether
or not you remake it. i'm gonna consult drag and the other
ZA peeps and see what they think.

Wow, discussions about little old me after I've been out of
the business for about 9 years. Neat.
My opinion is, go ahead and remake it as a special edition.
You have my total permission, what not, and yadda yadda.
But if you are going to remake it, go all out.
Back in the day I was making a new and improved version of
IOJ1. And it was more like IOJ4 in the graphics and interactivity.
What I see now is a simple change in textures and maybe a
couple different jokes.
It's like the XFL compared to the NFL. It's not a big enough
change from the original.
If you're going to go, go all out. If you have the sense
of humor, add in those extra jokes. Retouchable objects.
Improved puzzles. Re-edited levels.
Heck, any change in IOJ1 is probably an improvment. Have
you actually played that thing? :)
But, again. Just a changing of textures and a few jokes
is kinda blah. Go for it, but do it big. Think IOJ 4.

If this is really Aric, and not an impersonator, I must say this:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARIC!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did we do that on AOL? It's so long ago and my mind is
so rattled. I don't remember people's names from high
school. Okay, let's see. Proof. Proof. Ahhh, to prove t
hat I'm me, I'll list my first game. It was MST3K Turkey
Day, and you think IOJ has a yellow border problem...

So there, I have total permission to remake the series. Also, Aric said I could finish it if I wanted (AND I DO), so suggestions are open. Anyone have any ideas?
